Forward thinking…
Our Latest film ‘Forward’ for The SNP is now live on the SNP website, so we thought we’d share too…
It was one of our biggest shoots to date, which involved a crew of 30, a cast of 23, a warehouse covering 140,000 sq ft (We didn’t use it all) , A crane, A full stage rig, A grand piano, pyrotechnics, power tools and a pair of roller blades. (See below — practical thinking at it’s best).

We worked with some of the best, to produce what we think is an original, visually stunning piece of film, which communicates The SNP’s vision clearly. We worked closely with our talent to ensure that the end result would surpass expectations.
The film was directed by David Boni, Shot by Ali Walker and the music arranged by Charlie Spencer at Candle Music. Combined with the talented local freelance crew we worked with, we knew we were onto a winner.

Seminar – Using Video to Enhance Your Communications
Using video to enhance your communications
Seminar hosted by Greenroom Films in collaboration with IOIC Scotland

A skilfully crafted video can play a key role in your communication strategy, engaging with your audience like no other medium can – yes we make films and yes we might be slightly biased in this.
Understanding what needs to be considered when commissioning a video can help make sure your message is getting to your audience. This seminar will look at some of the key aspects of the production process and we’ll also delve into some of the filming technology and have a tour of our edit suites
We’ll also be looking at a real case study from one of our clients who had an audience who were feeling low and despondent. One of our films integrated into a successful communications strategy to radically energise the audience leading to one of the most impressive successes in Scottish history- sounds like we’re bigging it up a little (well maybe) but to be honest you’ve got to hear the tale…
This event has been produced in association with the Institute of Internal Communicators and is free to IOIC members. £25+VAT to non-members
Location: Greenroom Films, 32 Maritime Street, Edinburgh, EH6 6SE
Date: Friday 10 February, 2-4pm, Register and Coffee from 1.30pm
Booking: If you’d like to book for the event, please email the lovely Brenda at brenda@ioic.org.uk.
Greenroom Films is one of the UK’s most successful production companies. Since 1993 it’s been delighting its corporate, advertising and government clients. Please contact Jonathan for further information. jonathan@greeenroomfilms.com 0131 454 3440

A New Year, A New You!
Edinburgh Leisure approached us to make a Brand Awareness film, and with a budget that reflected our austere times we had to think creatively. This resulted in 2 compact crews filming over 4 days capturing the ‘A to Z of Edinburgh Leisure’.
With careful scheduling we managed to pull it out the bag. If you’re feeling energetic or want to work off the Christmas indulgences, get yourself along to a venue near you.

Portraying a portrait
We were lucky enough to produce the TV commercial for the re-opening of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. If you haven’t been yet, then put a date in your diary to get along, its truly wonderful.
We received the engaging storyboard from the Creative Guru’s at O Street and switched quickly into pre-production mode. We got to work recceing, casting and carefully considering lighting. A simple enough shoot, but we feel effective and classy, reflecting the Gallery’s ‘image’.

Merry Christmas – From Greenroom Films
Even more so than usual, this year has been incredibly busy, memorable and inspiring for the Greenroom Films team. There have been a few changes, some modifications and many enhancements, and we believe we are better than ever, at producing amazing films.
We don’t want to ramble, as no doubt there are many drunken staff parties awaiting, instead here are just a few of the things we’ve been upto in 2011…
- We have made 69 TV commercials, That’s just under 6 a month, and that doesn’t include the hundreds of variations we make
- HQ has finally had a well-deserved face lift (Do come in for a coffee and have a nosey)
- The wonderful Magnus has come into our lives in the form of our new Director and Post Production guru
- We’ve Shot 2 TV commercials in Malaga, Spain (Hey – It’s a tough life…)
- Had one of our films (Legacy-Roddy Buchanan) nominated for an ALICE award (Artistic Landmarks In Contemporary Experience)
- Raced a boat (in a car!) along the river Clyde while trying to get the shot
- Experienced true Rock n Roll while filming with the band ‘The View’ on a Dundee bandstand
- Experienced the charms of the 18th century to film a series of Find My Past commercials
- Taken our Clearcast chum out for lunch – finally!
- Filmed with the lovely folks in Houston, Texas
- Hopefully helped to reunite many of the UK’s long lost relatives with our Genes Re-united sponsorship bumpers and TV ads
- Our resident ‘first aider’ has managed to nearly knock her self out…with the wall… hanging the first aid kit

Flavour of the month – Genealogy
Want to know who your great uncle is? Or how about what your great, great granny got up to in her 20’s? Or in the case of Jeremy Kyle viewers, who your baby’s daddy is?!
We were approached by Elastic Creative to produce sponsorship bumpers for Genes Re-united, A Genealogy site where you can track down your relatives and start a family tree, which was to be sponsoring ITV’s ‘Long Lost Family’, presented by Davina McCall. The creative included a WW1 soldier, a suffragette, A teddy boy and of course…The Milkman to name but a few. The entire room set was built from scratch in the studio, shot over one day & As you’ll see from the commercial , we hired a lot of costumes.
The sponsorships were so successful they have now been cut to work as standalone ads and are running on ITV, Channel 4 and UKTV channels.

A requirement for sunshine
We’ll you can’t rely on Scottish weather to make a sunny looking commercial! So we hooked up with our trusty fixers in Spain to shoot an ad for ‘Oginov’.
Lou flew out to do the casting challenged with finding british looking kids that could do acrobats – not a hard task at all! As you’ll see from the ad we got a good bunch of kids, some of which were scouted out at the local skate park. Then a week later we flew out with Ryan air & to keep the baggage costs down, we took the 5D, a Go-pro & a head mount! The shoot went well and we got our guarantied sunshine, so much so we were tempted to set up a 2nd greenroom base in the costa del sol. So anyone with a script beginning with ‘’Open on a beach…’’ We’ve got it covered.

It’s a wrap for Lee
It’s the end of an era, On Friday Lee did his last day at Greenroom Films and has left us for the colder climate of Finland. Lee has been a valued member of Greenroom for many years and it’s a shame we have to say goodbye, however new ventures await him & we wish him all the best.
We’ve appointed a replacement who will be joining the team soon. You’ll get to hear all about him in due course.

V&A

With only three days’ notice, this two-day shoot was put together supporting Dundee’s bid for the V&A regional museum. The work included filming with our 4K RED camera and the animation was completed in record time by our good friends at Superunami.

Making a splash
Making A Splash

Hail a brave client in an uncertain world!
Scottish Water allowed us to pull out all the stops for their new ‘brand film’, to be shown at their conferences across Scotland.
No talking heads or wall-to-wall voiceover in sight. Instead, five days worth of beautiful chest pounding imagery, shot on our Red camera, and a rousing music track.
Lights. Red Camera. Action.

Filmed on location in picturesque Perth, Tayburn’s ad for UHI really put our gaffer’s ability to the test!
Fresh Blood

Before we go, we would just like to introduce the latest recruit to the Scottish TV production industry, Lucy Ball. Lucy joins us fresh out of college, where she successfully completed a TV Production course and won best film at Edinburgh’s Telford College film show at Edinburgh’s Film house.
We thought we should introduce her now, as she will probably be an old hand by the time we get round to sending out our next newsletter.
